Christian Service Program
The Christian Service component at Donovan Catholic offers all students at every grade level the opportunity to share their gifts in a dynamic service program. This program provides many events for all members of the school community to deepen their understanding and commitment to Jesus and His message of compassion, service and love.
Donovan Catholic students are required to meet the following minimum Christian Service Hours Requirements in order to graduate.
- 10 hours of Christian Service completed during freshmen year
- 20 hours of Christian Service completed during sophomore year
- 20 hours of Christian Service completed during junior year
- 20 hours of Christian Service completed during senior year
We utilize the Mobile Serve website where each student can track his/her own service hours. Ongoing service opportunities are also listed on this website.
Students that exceed 100 hours of service in a given school year are eligible to receive a bronze service award; excess of 175 hours a silver service award and in excess of 250 hours are eligible for a gold service award .

Big Brother Big Sister Program The program is the first ever in Ocean County. It was started by the students of Monsignor Donovan High School in order to provide the students of Hugh J. Boyd Elementary School in Seaside Heights with positive role models. Requirements to participate: application and interview by the staff of this agency. |
Challenger Baseball, Chariot Riders and Tops Soccer Students assist the physically and mentally disabled by teaching them simple baseball, horseback riding and soccer skills. |

S.A.I.L. (Service and Achievement in the Library) Students help with children’s programs as well as assist staff in all library departments. |
Teacher's Aides for St. Joseph's Parish Religious Education Academy Students teach and assist the youth of our parish to learn about our faith. |

Crop Walk Students and faculty walk to raise monies and awareness to help provide clean water and combat hunger locally as well as globally. |
Alzheimer's Walk Students and faculty walk to raise monies and awareness for Alzheimer’s Research. |

Breast Cancer Walk Students and faculty walk to raise monies and awareness for Breast Cancer Research. |
Semper Five (5K) Run Students and faculty walk to Students to benefit the U.S, Marine Corps and the MARSOC Foundation. |

Seeds of Service (SOS) Groups of volunteers from religion classes and school clubs visit SOS, located on the grounds of Visitation Church in Brick. We do various jobs while we are there each week, such as stocking the resale shop, prepping and uploading items for online sales, maintaining the grounds and gardens and unloading deliveries of donations. This is a great “hands-on” service experience for students in their religion class. |
Habitat for Humanity Our school-based chapter that assists with building homes for local needy families. Students also work in the Re-Sale Store, which is owned and operated by North Ocean Habitat for Humanity to provide funding for building materials. Students provide support to this organization by volunteering and/or participating in their annual bike ride to raise money. |

St. Joseph Food Pantry Students and faculty walk to Students to benefit the U.S, Marine Corps and the MARSOC Foundation. We support the Parish Food Pantry in a variety of ways, from collecting non-perishable food items, to sorting incoming donations and stocking the pantry shelves. In addition, many individual sports teams and clubs (NHS, Student Council, Operation Smile and others) do additional service works, collections and raise awareness for local and national non-profit organizations. |
