Fine Tradition and Excellent Reputation; Performing Arts at Donovan Catholic High School

THEATRE

We take pride in the fine reputation we have established through our excellent productions. Many of the students who attend Donovan Catholic  do so, because of the success of the fine and performing arts department. The success of the program has resulted more from the level of commitment, support, and cooperation shown by the faculty, school, administration and church community, the talent and dedication of the individuals involved, and the results from the theatre arts class.

To keep pace and create a competitive edge, we continue to participate in various performing arts competitions available throughout the state.

BAND

The “Grifftones Concert Rock Band” is proud of our reputation as being a bit different from the average high school band. Not only the repertoire but also in the personnel. From its inception The Grifftones have welcomed any and all instruments regularly including electric guitar, electric bass, keyboards, synthesizers, along with traditional instruments of brass and woodwinds and even at times the unusual. There have been times when the line up included a sitar, Irish Fiddle, bodhrán, banjo and even a Kyoto.  Our philosophy is that if you want to play, we want you in. With the directors ability to choose and arrange music based on the ingredients the Grifftones are known for their repertoire of Trans Siberian Orchestra for Christmas and kickin’ classic rock for the spring. Not your average song list.

The band is offered as an elective to all grades and is available for all four years to the dedicated musicians. There are also the weekly after school and flex rehearsals to accommodate those who can’t schedule the elective and to balance the students time between sports and other activities.

CHOIR

The Donovan Catholic Choir is a versatile multi-genre performance group.  The choir provides music for school masses and prayer services, and performs two concerts each year in addition to singing at program fundraisers and community events.  Genres of music span from classical concert material to musical theatre, pop to jazz, and everything in between.
