Fine Tradition and Excellent Reputation
Donovan Catholic recognizes the benefits of the performing arts and continues to support all activities, events, competitions, performances and course offerings related to training students in theatre.
We take pride in the fine reputation we have established through our excellent productions. Many of the students who attend Donovan Catholic do so, because of the success of the fine and performing arts department. The success of the program has resulted more from the level of commitment, support, and cooperation shown by the faculty, school, administration and church community, the talent and dedication of the individuals involved, and the results from the theatre arts class.
To keep pace and create a competitive edge, we continue to participate in various performing arts competitions available throughout the state.
Drama Club
The Drama Club welcomes all interested in theatre production including: acting, vocal performance, dance, directing, student production and management, set construction, lighting design, sound engineering, publicity, technology, broadcasting, and live streaming. Students participate in competition, student directing, and assist with the two major productions in the fall and spring.
International Thespian Society – Troupe 1435
This worldwide organization consists of students who have demonstrated a deep commitment to the theatre. Students may join this prestigious society after accumulating 10 points through their participation on stage or backstage. A lifetime membership includes a subscription to Dramatics magazine.
Fall & Spring Productions
In the Fall and Spring of each school year, students present two major productions. Auditions are generally held in September for the Fall Production, and December for the Spring production. Recent productions have included: The Diary of Anne Frank, 12 Angry Jurors, Mame, The Sound of Music, A Christmas Carol, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, The Wizard of Oz, Mary Poppins, Godspell, and Guys and Dolls.
Production Leadership
Each year, Donovan Theatre Members have the unique opportunity to take on further leadership roles while assisting Saint Joseph Grade School with their theatrical production. Donovan students assist with all facets of the production while taking on the role of mentors for the Saint Joseph crew and cast members. Recent productions assisted by Donovan Students have included: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Beauty and the Beast, and The Lion King.
